Or niacin; Water-soluble vitamin (C5H5N.COOH) of the B complex, found in meat, fish, and cereals; it can also be formed in small amounts in the body from the essential amino acid tryptophan. Absence of nicotinic acid from the diet leads to the disease pellagra.
