In music, an overlapping of multiple parts in different keys, associated in particular with Darius Milhaud whose miniature Serenade for orchestra 1917–22 combines up to six major keys. Two keys superimposed is bitonality.
The effect is akin to multiplexing, allowing the ear to fasten on any one line at will, but the combination effect is less coherent.
