A contrivance for carrying objects from place to place; esp., one for transporting grain, coal, etc., such as a moving belt.
Device used for transporting materials. Widely used throughout industry is the conveyor belt, usually a rubber or fabric belt running on rollers. Trough-shaped belts are used, for example in mines, for transporting ores and coal. Chain conveyors are also used in coal mines to remove coal from the cutting machines. Overhead endless chain conveyors are used to carry components and bodies in car-assembly works. Other types include bucket conveyors and screw conveyors, powered versions of the Archimedes screw.
